"It's Better Than Sticker Star, I Swear!™"
This game came out today. From what I've heard, it's lived up its potential to the absolute fullest. In other words, it's kind of okay. The Mario series in general has basically made this descent towards mediocrity, starting with a handheld, putting it on a console, and then making the games like that from then on. The 2D platformers, Tennis, and now Paper Mario.
Obviously the game isn't an unplayable mess, but it's not something that I intend to settle for. I do hope that, one day, Nintendo will see the light and understand what kind of standard it set up for itself in the Gamecube era.
I might buy it in the event of a price drop. A huge one. Like, 20 bucks. I ain't spending more on it than my mom spent on TTYD. The environments are beautiful and the dialogue seems pretty decently-written, making up for the very deliberate lack of visually distinct NPCs as much as possible.
The general consensus I've gotten from reviews is as follows: It's not so bad, but it's not so good, you know?
