I'm surprised this thread doesn't exist and I'll accept whatever's due if it does.

What are your thoughts on the election, the campaigns so far, the issues at hand, and the candidates?

In my opinion..

Spoiler
Image

Bernie Sanders

Leads among the Reddit populace. That sort of vaguely anti-capitalist large-government group, opposing corporations and the current status. I've no qualms with the guy - he's the closest one to me ideologically. Getting him elected would be a titanic effort of getting him past Clinton and getting America to vote a socialist into office. Easier said than done.

Spoiler
Image

Hillary Clinton

The default choice for the Democrats. Leading by a beautiful margin in the polls, has insane endorsements, has been in politics for decades. Her experience in a race where outsiders so far are doing very well might be her downfall. Americans don't exactly always like politicians, and there's not exactly a shortage of outsiders. Then again, she is the default and most likely choice for the Dem. nomination.

Spoiler
Image

Martin O'Malley

The "I-don't-like-Clinton-but-I'm-no-commie" choice. Tragic, he deserves better.

Spoiler
Image

Jeb Bush

Every issue that hurts Clinton hurts Jeb twice over. 43 was not a well-received President, and Jeb really hasn't caught our eye.

Spoiler
Image

Marco Rubio

Barring all else, right now, the most likely nominee. He's cool with the Party, a good debater, he's Latino...

Then again.

Marco Rubio: Paris Attacks, 9/11 Part Of God’s Plan

Which can hurt him or help him.

Spoiler
Image

Ted Cruz

I don't know a thing about Ted Cruz. He seems to be Rubio with less exposure.

Spoiler
Image

Donald Trump

Unelectable. I think. He shouldn't make it into office considering he's never held political office before. But he's been leading since July. He's strange, Trump.

Spoiler
Image

Dr. Ben Carson

Carson is a lot like Trump, but less entertaining.

Who else is in the Republican race? Christie, Fiorina, Kasich, Pataki (who?), Santorum (he's running)..

They speak for themselves. Unlikely.

What do you all think?

I respect Bernie for being incredibly consistent in his positions, and it helps that he seems like he genuinely wants good things for the country. That said, while I haven't done the most research, based on what I do know I don't see his plans working all that well. Tuition free public college may work in countries like Norway and Switzerland but those countries are also much smaller than ours. There are numerous stances he has that I find highly questionable, like him toting the long debunked "78%" wage gap talking point. Also him bending over for and later defending the Black Lives Matter retards was embarrassing. That said, he's probably the one I'd like most to see win the nomination.

I don't even know when it comes to Hillary. She doesn't even seem like a real person. I don't want to elect someone when I have no idea what their real opinions are.

I enjoy how unabashedly outrageous Donald Trumps is, the guys antics have actually got me to pay a little more attention to American politics than I usually do. I disagree with a lot of what he says, but honestly I'd still prefer having him in the Oval Office than Shillary.

Carson must be an idiot savant. Brilliant at medicine, retarded when it comes to everything. The fact that in this day and age, in a developed country, a person who believe that the earth was created in six literal days and that evolution is a hoax has a non microscopic chance to become the president is downright terrifying.

Haven't paid all that much attention to the rest. Most of the other republican runners seem pretty ridiculous, Cruz and Rubio especially.

I wonder if I'm watching the end of the Republican Party, a great fun side show that will end once shit gets serious, or the beginning of an even greater divide in the country. I'm thinking it's a great side show. But if Trump win's the Republican nomination......HOLY SHIT! The Party won't be able to survive that and will splinter or morph into a new beast.

Are the Democrats really going to sweep 12-16 years of Presidential rule over the land? We got universal health care with the last President and everyone thought that shit would never fly. Maybe the next Dem (Hillary) will get free college through or put a big hurting on fossil fuels and we'll see a huge surge in renewable/sustainable energy. Gotta say shit is interesting. Sadly I feel like the stakes are high on what will happen depending on who wins. It kinda scares me that one person can have so much impact to such a powerful nation.

This is an election completely unlike any before it, but that's mainly cause of the Republicans. The Democrats of 2016 are very similar to the Democrats of 2008. Bit to the left on some issues, but overall the same.

The Republicans of 2016 are not the Republicans of 2008. They are a death cult. Crying over gun deaths is womanly, not wanting a war with Iran and Russia is weak, not outlawing and persecuting a specific religion is political correctness gone mad.

In 2008 the man the party picked corrected his supporters, saying that Obama was an American, a Christian, and a good man. These days that attitude with $160 million dollars gets you to Jeb Bush levels. Meanwhile, birther no. 1 is leading by a mile.

I hope this breaks them, that they hit rock bottom and split, or die, or something, but I said that after Palin, and then after all the shit in 2012, and they continued to get worse and worse

.otherwise known as "a surgeon". That field of medicine does not encourage critical thinking or problem solving so much as rote memorization. You can have a vast amount of medical knowledge without knowing much about the outside world, and a huge number I've met do.

If you've ever seen Scrubs, The Todd is easily the most accurate depiction of a surgeon I've seen. People don't like thinking of them that way, though, so we think a surgeon has to be brilliant.

Just going to make a nudge that while I feel the thread is going fine so far, just remember to respect each other's opinions and not step on them. I'm saying this because of how topics like these can get heated (especially with the voting season coming soon), so make sure to be cool to each other no matter how much your opinions differ.

It breaks my heart to see Donald Trump doing so well in the polls. Ted and Rubio are crap but please just anyone but Trump. Hillary is crap, Bernie is crap, Trump is crap, they're all crap except maybe Martin O'Malley and John Kasich but neither of those two stand Yang's chance in the FF7verse against these popular morons.

We're doomed.

One thing for sure, I'm voting third party. I don't care if it "doesn't do anything." If everyone else is voting either vomit or poop, I'm still going to vote pizza.

I'm voting poop. Sure it smells but eventually the smell goes away or you get so use to it you don't notice it any more and with time it'll become something useful....fertilizer.
