I was hoping to add a bit of… Spice to the DEATH BATTLE sub-forums. We see a lot of debate here, with tons of different sides being picked. I’d say it’s time the forum members put their money (or rather their avatars and sigs), where their mouths are with the time-tested Avatar Bet!

What is an avatar bet? Exactly what’s written on the tin; 2 forum users (or more) make a bet on what will happen in the future (in this case DEATH BATTLE verdicts), and whoever loses the bet will have to use a pre-selected avatar of the winner’s choice for a pre-established period of time. If anybody wants an example of avatar bets in action, the Persona Community Thread on Neogaf recently had a large bet between those who thought Persona 5 would see a 2015 release (I.E, Team Believe), and those who thought it would be delayed to 2016 (I.E, Team Ruin). Anyone who keeps up with video game news will know Team Ruin won out, and the results were… Well, this.

There are no strict rules for the parameters to an avatar bet. I want to keep them loose so forum members can decide what to make avatar bets on, how long the loser of a bet will have to keep the avatar, ETC. These bets don’t even need to be over which character will win a DEATH BATTLE, though I imagine a lot of them will be. However, if you want my personal opinion, I would suggest making the losers of bets change their avatars for no more than 3 weeks or a month. That way everyone will be able to make a bet and change their avatars if needed once the next fight has aired.
That aside, there are some more concrete rules to keep in mind.

1. I want to make this very clear: I will NOT tolerate any form of harassment, ad hominem, or insults made as a result people losing avatar bets, or the like. This is something meant to be done in good fun. Don’t take that fun away.

2. We’re going off the honor system with this, and can’t really force anybody to change their avatars if they lose a bet. But if you make a bet and lose, please avoid being a sore loser, and just change your avatar to the agreed picture for the agreed upon time.

3. Having established rule #2, I'm also going to say that if the winner of a bet does not give their opponent a designated avatar/sig within 4 weeks of the bet results being posted, then the loser is under no obligation to use a avatar/sig set given to them. So don't be tardy.

4. Please try to avoid having the images and avatars for the losing side be too demeaning or insulting. Quite frankly, making a staunch supporter of one side use an avatar of the opposing side’s victorious character, or a picture of the losing character with a lot of salt surrounding them, should be enough to drive the point home. That said, someone who agreed to use a certain avatar if they lose a bet should know well ahead of time what said avatar will look like, and whether or not they think it’s too insulting.

5. Please use a bit of common sense and don't make a bet that encourages, implies, or requires rule-breaking on the forums as one of its conditions.

6. Obviously, avoid having any of the images in avatar bets be pornographic or NSFW.

7. Changing sigs is allowed too, just make sure the changes follow the appropriate size limits, the same rules for Avatar changes, and specify whether or not it’s okay to spoiler said sig.

8. All other forum rules apply. Don’t do anything to anger Ban-Master Abrams.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for somebody to make some silly photoshops and avatars for these avatar bets, I might just be your man.

So, I have only one question for all of you...

How are the users selected and pitted against each other?

Sounds fun. I would want to see a test-drive to see first hand how this works, before I go making a bet and then lose.

Then again, any avatar would be better than a loaf of bread..

Don't you speak ill of the Mighty Loaf!

But I got another idea. Instead of having members place bets on what they think will happen, hold a scan battle and have the winner be decided by community vote

I'm in. I've made bets on Death Battle before, should have recorded them, but this will be fun for here.

The users themselves propose avatar bets and any takers get in on the action.

Just to give an example, for this current fight a Dan Hibiki supporter might propose a bet with a Hercule supporter where if Dan wins they have to sport an avatar of Hercule in the maid outfit he had when he befriended Buu. If the Dan supporter loses, they have to... I don't know, use an avatar with any number of humiliating poses Dan has been in.

Guess I'll be the one to man up

Let it be known that I, metabro of the Screwattack Forums, do hereby bet with great certainty that there will be at least one pervy comment about Hercule having a hot daughter in any way, shape, or form in the upcoming Death Battle episode. This includes either host stating this outright or it being written in the analysis

Should I lose my bet, I will lose the right to having an avatar of my choosing until the next Death Battle airs, thereby forfeiting my beloved and iconic Big Mac that so perfectly encapsulates my online identity, and thus my very persona will be up to the whims of whoever takes me up on my bet. Should I win the bet, however, the reverse will be true, and my opponent will suffer the complete, total, crushing, heartbreaking, humiliating, earth-shattering, mind-blowing, spine-tingling, web-slinging, biscuit-eating agony that will be the avatar I bestow upon them
